A "portmanteau," or blended word, is a word made by combining parts of two or more words. Here, the word is emoticon. 











The word Emoticon is formed by splicing two words “Emotion” and “icon” The spliced parts “emote-” and “-icon” are blended to form a portmanteau word, “emoticon”.
