1. An Indian Festival
India is known for festivals. Diwali is one of the most famous Hindu festivals. On this day, Lord Rama returned from exile. On this day, people clean their houses and shops. They light their houses. They send greetings, sweets and presents to their near and dear ones. They worship goddess Lakshmi. Children explode crackers. Some people gamble on this day. It should not be practised.
2. Good Manners
Good manners oil the machine of life. They earn us respect. They give us inner joy and also keep others happy. The words like 'please' and 'thank you' settle bitter quarrels. Good manners should be observed everywhere. We should respect our elders and be polite to the younger ones. We should talk less and listen more. We should learn to take turns and wait patiently in the queue. Good behaviour is a social and moral obligation. Bad manners create bitterness everywhere.
3. Leisure
Life is not about remaining always busy at work. One wastes a lot of energy in overwork. But it can be restored by leisure. One must enjoy the sights of nature. One should do some physical activity as well. It helps to stay fit. But busy-men miss all this. Moreover, overwork causes diseases of the heart and brain. Leisure is very important in life. We must make the right use of leisure.
4. My Motherland
India is my motherland. She is also the motherland of many saints, sages and warriors. India is the oldest civilization. She is the biggest democracy in the world. India supports the world-peace. There is unity in diversity. India has made great progress in the field of science also. She is now a nuclear power state. She is rich in heritage and natural resources. In its north, there are the Himalayas. The soil of India is very fertile. She has hard working people. They are peace-loving people. I am proud of my motherland.
5. Drug Addiction
Addiction to drugs is an invitation to death. The youth is the most affected by this. They waste their precious energy and money to buy drugs. Sometimes they steal from their own homes.They become violent after taking drugs. They become criminals as they lose sense of good and bad. Government should take immediate steps needed to get rid of this problem.
6. Fashion among Students
Students are very particular about fashion. They ape actors and actresses. There is a competition among them to look smart. They visit health clubs and beauty-parlours every often. They go to boutiques to learn about new fashion. They are conscious about their physical looks. They put on expensive clothes to look attractive. There is nothing wrong in the desire to look good and smart. But they should not devote all their time and energy to fashion.
7. Discipline
Discipline means self-control. It is the back-bone of one's character. It comes from the word 'disciple' which means a learner. It is very important or essential in every walk of life. Children learn discipline from their parents and elders. Students learn discipline from their teachers in schools. Soldiers follow whatever is commanded. Even the objects of Nature follow discipline. Life would become anarchy, if there is no discipline. There must be discipline in a classroom. Society must follow the discipline. Even in a playground, players must follow the discipline. There will be no progress, if there is no discipline. Discipline is, thus, important in life.
8. A Visit to a Wildlife Sanctuary
A sanctuary is a place where animals live in their natural habitat. I went to visit my uncle who is a tea planter in Assam. We went to a sanctuary named Kaziranga. It is the natural habitat of a single –horn rhino. We mounted an elephant and passed through the tall grass .We also saw the rhino walking. Its single horn, thick skin and huge body attracted us. There were also bucks and birds of various kinds. We saw animals roaming freely and fearlessly. It was a very good experience.
9. Our School Annual Inspection
The annual inspection of our school was conducted by our D.E.O. He reached the school along with his team. He was escorted to the assembly by our Principal .In the morning assembly, we sang the national anthem. We also presented a P.T. show with drums. Our academic records were also checked by the team. The team was highly impressed by our science and computer labs. They also visited the sports room and the art and craft room. The wise principal read the annual report. The whole team was highly satisfied.
10. A Visit to Rajghat
Rajghat is the place where the body of Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. It is situated in Delhi. It is a place of pilgrimage for Indians. Last Sunday, I went there with my school friends. A stony path leads to the inner gates. The Samadhi is a mound covered with black stone slab. “Hey Ram” is carved on the slab. It is visited by all the foreign dignitaries who come to India. It is a place of utmost sanctity.
11. Small Family is a Happy Family
A small family is always a happy family. The cost of living is really high in today's world. India, like all countries, is facing a population problem. Because India has limited resources, stress should be laid on family planning and spread of education. A person having fewer children can make them good citizens by providing them with a proper diet and good education. Thus the motto should be to have children by choice and not by chance.
12. Fast food - A Health Hazard
Fast food is quick and inexpensive. We can buy it from anywhere. It is very popular among school children. It is inexpensive because it is made with cheaper ingredients. It is oily and spicy. It is unhealthy and can lead to health problems like heart disease and obesity. We should boycott the habit of eating fast foods. Fast foods are junk foods and junk should be thrown away rather than be eaten.
13. Scene at the Railway Station
Every Sunday, I spend some time at the railway station. I like watching the trains come and go. I enjoy the scene before the arrival of a train. I enjoy seeing growing excitement and activity on all sides. Some are in a great hurry to board a train. Some are unhappy at the departure of loved ones. Coolies run about with luggage. Vendor boys move in and out of the train. There is a lot of jostling and elbowing. After the train has left, the platform gives a deserted look.
14. A Scene at the Polling Booth
Election Day was full of excitement this year. My school was also a polling center. There was feverish activity at the booth. There was a rush of votes near the polling booth. Cars and minibuses were used to bring candidates from homes. Free drinks and snacks were also offered to voters. In the booth, the polling officer enquired about the names of the voters and verified their identity cards. Before casting a vote, an ink mark was put on every voter's left forefinger. The booth was closed at 5 in the evening.
15. Inauguration of the Computer Wing of Our School
New computer wing has been inaugurated by our worthy Principal of the school. He talked about the use of computers in modern education. He talked about using computers for maximizing learning. It was a very interesting talk. Then we visited the new computer wing. It is going to help us a lot. We are curious to start using our new computers.
16. A Visit to a Book Fair
Last Sunday, my friends and I visited a book fair at the District Library. It was a spectacle to watch. Many publishing houses displayed their books. I bought some books. In the afternoon, we had tea and snacks. There were many young boys and girls. Even small children were enthusiastic to see the books. I bought a book of short stories for my younger brother. We returned home happy and content.
17. An Aeroplane Crash
I was an eyewitness to the airplane crash that happened at Jalandhar four years ago. I was going to market when I heard a big noise in the sky. I saw huge flames of fire. Suddenly I saw people running towards the bank. I also rushed towards the bank. The debris of a plane was scattered all over. Many people were dead and many were crying in pain. Within minutes the police party and a team of doctors and volunteers arrived. After this incident I was shocked and restless for days.
18. Science Fair in Our School
Yesterday, a science fair was organized in our school. It was inaugurated by the District Education Officer. There were 40 items on display. Most of them were working models. The fair showed newness. Everyone was fascinated. The students explained their models with confidence. The students and teachers had worked hard. Everyone appreciated the efforts.
19. A Rainy Day
India faces many seasons. Rainy season is a major reasons for this. It was the month of July last year. One day, it was very hot. All were longing for a shower of rain. In the evening, some dark clouds appeared in the sky. A cool breeze began. Soon the whole sky was covered with the clouds. A heavy rain started down. Streets and roads were flooded with water. Children came out and started playing in the rain. The rain stopped after two hours. The weather became pleasant. People enjoyed the rain.
20. Pollution
Pollution is the greatest problem we face today. Air, water, food, everything is polluted. We ourselves are responsible for this. We destroy nature. We pollute our water sources. We pollute the air with smoke from factories, vehicles, etc. We have no control over ourselves. Our governments should take strict steps to control it. There should be heavy fines over polluting nature. We should adopt simple living to avoid pollution.
21. An Ideal Citizen
An ideal citizen is an asset to the nation. A law abiding citizen is a real patriot. He has good civic sense. He is loyal to family, society and country. He makes proper use of his vote. He pays tax and believes in world peace. He works for the welfare and progress of his country. He fights against social evils. An ideal citizen is a must for the prosperity of a country.
