STANZA# 1

Poem # 1. TRAINS

Through day and darkness,

 Through dusk and dawn

1) What do the above lines refer to?
Ans.  The above lines refer to the continuous and regular working of the trains.
They show that trains keep running all the time.

2) What do ‘day and darkness’ and ‘dusk and dawn’ tell the readers?
Ans. These phrases show that trains run regularly at all times.
They run day and night, early morning and late night.

STANZA # 2

Carrying passengers,
Carrying mail,
Bringing their precious loads
In without fail.

Ans.  They carry passengers and mail. They also bring precious loads that belong to the passengers.

Ans. The poet calls passengers and mail “precious loads” because human lives (passengers) and mail are both valuable and important.

STANZA # 3

The hunter went on a journey

To find some deer meat

He saw a buck and looked into his eyes

He saw a plea, the buck begging for his life

A doe and a fawn came from behind

Needing the buck in their lives.

STANZA # 4

The hunter knew what he came for and raised his gun,
But out of nowhere, he saw the buck’s son.
It was cute, to say the least,
And if he killed the buck, he’d feel like a beast.
The hunter looked at the deer again,
And something grew in him.

Ans.  A fawn came out of nowhere.

Ans.  The hunter felt that he could not kill the buck.

c. What did the hunter gather for feeding the deer?
Ans.  The hunter gathered nuts for feeding the deer.
