Suffix '- ing' / List of 50 Words with 4 Rules

        Suffix '- ing' Let's learn about suffixes in detail.  Here are some rules, which will help you use these words judiciously.  Rule #1  : Add '-ing' to the base verb.  1. act+ ing= acting 2. bark+ ing= barking 3. break+ing=  breaking 4. hunt+ ing= hunting  5. see+ ing= seeing Rule # 2 : Eliminate the last letter '-e' after adding '-ing' : 1. bore+ ing= boring  2. change+ ing= changing  3. leave+ ing= leaving  4. tire+ ing= tiring 5. write+ ing= writing  Rule # 3 :  If the last letter is a consonant and there is a vowel before it, double the last letter after adding '-ing'.  (consonant+ vowel+ consonant): 1. cut + ing= cutting 2. put+ ing= putting 3. run+ ing= running 4. stir+ ing= stirring 5. swim+ ing= swimming  Rule # 4 :  Change '-ie' into '-y-' and add '-ing'.  1. die+ ing= dying  2. hie+ ing = hying 3. lie+ ing= lying  4. tie+ ing= tying 5. vie+ ing= vying  ✍ Her...
