Let's Speak English | Phrasal Verbs with 'Look' 


PART II


Phrasal verbs combine a base verb with another word, usually a preposition or adverb – known as a particle – to create a completely new meaning.


Here we are discussing just 5 Phrasal Verbs:

Look down
Look forward to
Look into
Look for
Look on


Well, look is a base verb with particles- down, forward to,  into, for and on.


Look means to turn your eyes in a particular direction (in order to pay attention to somebody/something)


But when we add any particle to it, it creates completely new meaning.

  1. Don't look down on beggars.
  2. Homeowners often look down on destitute people.
  3. The other children looked down on her because her parents were poor.

  1. ਭਿਖਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਨਾ ਦੇਖੋ।
  2. ਘਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਕਸਰ ਬੇਸਹਾਰਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

 2. Look forward to: ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਣ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਨਾ
  1. I’m looking forward to my vacation.
  2. Look forward to hearing from you.
  3. The kids are looking forward to their holiday vacation.

  3. Look into: ਕਿਸੇ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਜਾਂ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਤੱਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ

  1. A party has been set up to look into the problem.
  2. The Principal has promised to look into the matter.
  3. We're looking into buying a new computer.

  2. He was looking for work as a carpenter. 
  3. I am looking for Hitesh. Have you seen him?

  1. A large crowd looked on as the piano played.
  2. Passers-by simply looked on as he was robbed.
  3. People looked on in silence as the two burglars were taken into the room.
