✍ Facts/ Do you know ?
1. No language has got the tag/status of national language.
2. The oldest language is Sanskrit, mother of all languages.
3. English and Hindi are the official languages of the Union. The English language shall continue to be used for all the official purposes of the Union for which it was being used immediately for a period of of 15 years from the commencement of the constitution, part XVII, Article 343, clause 2.
4. Initially 14 languages were included in the constitution. They are Assamese, Bengali ,Gujarati ,Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam , Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit , Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
5. Sindhi language was added in 1967.
6. Konkani,Manipuri and Nepali were included in 1992.
7. Bodo, Dogri, Maithili and Santhali were added in 2004.
